SPANISH ELEMENTARY CURRICULUMThe Sing 'n Speak Spanish program is far-reaching, going beyond many elementary and middle school curricula. Years 1 and 2 introduce basic vocabulary and simple grammar on subjects children relate to. Years 3, 4, and 5 review earlier vocabulary and introduce new vocabulary and higher level grammar, with special focus on verbs and conjugation. There is also a higher level Year 1 curriculum (6th - 8th grade) that introduces about 25% more vocabulary and more advanced grammar structures, all with higher level activities. The table below summarizes the topics covered in Year 1 - Year 5 and the appropriate grade ranges for each. This curriculum is quite versatile - it can be taught to a range of ages and adapted to a variety of in-school, home school, or after-school environments. The Scope & Sequence Chart (K-5) illustrates how perfectly this program fits into a once a week class at elementary schools. The program works equally well if students begin their Spanish education in 4th grade (Scope & Sequence Chart 4-8) or even in 6th grade (Scope & Sequence Chart 6-8). In any of these instructional settings, the curriculum can easily be stretched to be a twice a week class by adding cultural themes, crafts, videos, more songs, more reading, and more writing.
